Living in Annapolis means having access to everything the Washington, DC Metro area has to offer. While there is plenty to do in our area, it’s often fun to venture out to see what else is happening in Baltimore, DC and Northern Virginia. Just a quick trip around the Beltway, you’ll find the Wolf Trap Performing Arts Center in Vienna, VA. Wolf Trap is a 7,000 seat outdoor amphitheater offers outdoor concerts for the entire family all summer long.
Wolf Trap also features two 18th century barns that serve as venues for indoor concerts during the fall and winter. From pop and country concerts to dance and opera performances, Wolf Trap’s live performances and education programs offer high-quality entertainment all year long.
Here is the information you need to plan an afternoon or evening at Wolf Trap:
Filene Center at Wolf Trap
The Filene Center is the main concert pavilion at Wolf Trap. Seating is under cover with open sides, and performances are held rain or shine. Visitors are allowed to bring in food and drinks, so you can pack a picnic to enjoy during concerts. You can also bring lawn chairs, but you must sit at the back so you will not block others’ views.
The Barns at Wolf Trap
The two rustic barns at Wolf Trap serve as a unique venue for indoor concerts featuring first-class acoustics. The larger barn seats 284 people on the ground floor and 98 in the hayloft, and the smaller barn is a reception area for gatherings before and after concerts. The Barns host numerous concerts each year, including jazz, bluegrass, chamber music, folk, cabaret and other music genres.
From late June through Early August, Wolf Trap offers special family-friendly performances at its Theatre-in-the-Woods. Shows are held on Tuesdays through Saturdays at 10:39 a.m. and include music, dance, storytelling, puppetry and plays. Tickets range in price from $8 to $10, and children two and under are free. After the shows, National Park Service Rangers usually lead nature walks through the woods.
